The hemoglobin A1C test is used to diagnose type 2 diabetes and monitor glucose control in diabetic patients. It is used either alone or in conjunction with other tests to make a diagnosis
It is recommended to be done every 90 days as a monitoring tool. For this test, fasting is not required.
The results are reported in percentage units (%). A normal value for this test is considered to be below 5.7%. Prediabetes is indicated by values between 5.7% and 6.4%. In type 2 diabetes, levels are above 6.5%.
